You Can't Modernize
What You Haven't Mapped.
The Ascend Infrastructure assessment gives your organization a structured, documented view of its infrastructure health — network architecture, system lifecycle status, resilience gaps, and cloud integration — before a failure or refresh decision makes the conversation urgent.
Built for organizations with aging infrastructure, those navigating post-acquisition integration, or those planning a significant technology refresh who need an objective baseline before committing to a modernization path.
Assessment Scope
Six Domains. Every Layer of Your Environment.
Infrastructure risk doesn't announce itself — it accumulates quietly in aging hardware, undocumented dependencies, and systems running past their supported lifecycle. The Ascend Infrastructure assessment makes what's invisible visible.
Network Architecture Review
Network topology documentation, LAN and WAN design review, segmentation effectiveness, routing and switching configuration, and bandwidth utilization analysis. We identify design patterns that introduce operational risk — bottlenecks, flat networks, undocumented dependencies, and single points of failure.
System Health & Lifecycle Status
Server, endpoint, and network device inventory with age, supported OS version, patch currency, and vendor end-of-life status for each. We identify which systems are running beyond their supported lifecycle — and what operational and security risk that introduces before it becomes an incident.
Storage, Backup & Data Management
Storage capacity and performance review, backup configuration and retention policies, recovery time and recovery point objective (RTO/RPO) testing, and data classification practices. We verify that your backup strategy would actually work when you need it — not just that one is configured.
Cloud & Hybrid Integration
Audit of cloud workloads across AWS, Azure, and GCP — configuration review, cost optimization opportunities, connectivity to on-premises systems, identity federation, and governance gaps. We evaluate whether your cloud usage is managed and intentional, or accumulated and undocumented.
Resilience & Redundancy
Single points of failure identification, power and cooling redundancy review, failover capability testing, ISP and connectivity redundancy, and alignment with business continuity requirements. We identify where one failure event would cause a disproportionate operational impact on your organization.
Vendor, Licensing & Contract Review
Software licensing compliance, vendor contract alignment, end-of-life product inventory, and support contract coverage. We identify licensing gaps that create audit exposure, support contracts that no longer cover critical systems, and EOL products creating unmanaged risk.
Assessment Deliverables
What You Walk Away With
Every Ascend Infrastructure engagement produces a complete documented picture of your environment — written for your IT team to act on and your leadership to make informed investment decisions from.
Executive Infrastructure Summary
A non-technical overview of your infrastructure health — overall risk rating, highest-priority operational risks, and recommended investment priorities. Written for leadership and board audiences who need to make budget decisions without reading a technical report.
Full Infrastructure Inventory
A documented inventory of network devices, servers, endpoints, storage systems, and cloud workloads — including age, OS version, patch level, lifecycle status, and support contract coverage. Many organizations don't have a current, accurate inventory until an assessment produces one.
Risk-Rated Findings Report
Every finding rated Critical, High, Medium, or Low — based on operational impact, failure likelihood, and exposure window. Findings are grouped by domain and include supporting evidence for each risk rating.
End-of-Life & Lifecycle Risk Register
A complete register of systems approaching or past vendor end-of-life — with current support status, associated risk, and recommended replacement timeline. Essential for budget planning and for demonstrating due diligence to auditors or insurers.
Modernization Roadmap
A prioritized modernization plan sequenced by operational risk — what to replace, what to upgrade, and what to migrate to the cloud, in the order that reduces your most significant exposure first. Includes effort estimates and phasing options for budget planning.
Findings Readout Session
A structured walkthrough of findings with your IT and leadership teams — included in every engagement. We present the executive summary separately from the technical findings to ensure both audiences leave with a clear understanding of priorities and next steps.
The Process
What to Expect
A structured four-phase engagement — scoped to your environment, conducted with minimal disruption, and delivered as a complete written package.
Scoping & Discovery Kickoff
1–3 business daysWe define the assessment boundary — on-premises, cloud, remote sites, and any environments excluded from scope. We identify your primary IT contacts, request access to existing documentation (network diagrams, asset inventories, contracts), and schedule the evaluation window around your operational calendar.
Infrastructure Evaluation
1–2 weeks depending on scopeOur team conducts the evaluation across all six domains — network reviews, system health checks, backup verification, cloud configuration audit, and vendor/licensing inventory. We work alongside your team, not around them. Evidence is collected and documented as we go — nothing is reconstructed after the fact.
Analysis & Risk Rating
Internal analysis phaseAll findings are compiled, categorized by domain, and rated by operational risk — Critical, High, Medium, or Low — based on failure likelihood, business impact, and time-to-failure estimates where applicable. The modernization roadmap is sequenced based on these ratings, not on product preference.
Report Delivery & Readout
Included in every engagementYou receive the complete infrastructure report, lifecycle risk register, and modernization roadmap. We walk your IT team through findings in a technical session and present the executive summary to leadership separately — so both audiences leave with the clarity they need to move forward.
The Cost of Deferred Action
Infrastructure Risk Is Quiet — Until It Isn't
Aging systems and undocumented infrastructure don't fail on a schedule. These numbers reflect what organizations face when infrastructure risk goes unaddressed until an event forces the conversation.
